The Expressions of Nerve Growth Factor and Its Receptor p75 in Hepatocellular Carcinoma: Their Relation with the Clinicopathologic Factors

چکیده
Background : Nerve growth factor (NGF) has been suggested to participate in tumor progression and it can interact with its receptor p75. In the present study, we investigated the expressions of NGF and p75 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Methods : We performed immunohistochemistry for NGF, p75 and PCNA in 45 cases of HCCs, and examined the relationships between the clinicopathologic factors and the immunohistochemical results. Results : NGF was detected in 84.4% (38/45) of the tumor cells and in 64.4% (29/45) of the non-tumorous hepatocytes. Furthermore, a NGF expression was present in 28.9% (13/45) of the endothelial cells in the HCCs, but in 80% (36/45) of the endothelial cells in the non-tumor liver tissue. The tumor cells were negative for p75 in all the HCCs. Although a p75 expression was present in all the nerve fibers in the non-tumor liver tissues, it was markedly reduced (42.2%; 19/45) in the HCCs and a p75 expression was observed at the sinusoids or around the large vessels. The HCCs expressing NGF, either in the tumor cells or the endothelial cells, showed a larger size than those HCCs that didn’t express NGF. The NGF positive tumors showed a tendency toward a higher PCNA-labeling index than did the negative tumors. Conclusions : The changed localization of the NGF expression and the decreased expression of p75 are associated with hepatic carcinogenesis. We suggest that a NGF expression may contribute to the progression of HCC.

The effects of deprenyl on P75 receptor mRNA changes in new born rats after sciatic nerve axotomy
Introduction: Neurotrophins belong to growth factor family and their function is based on their receptors. They bind two types of receptors: p75 and tyrosine kinase. The motoneuron survival or death depends upon the neurotrophic factors. Recent studies have demonstrated that axotomy in peripheral nerve induces apoptosis of motoneuron. Deprenyl or Selegiline is known as a drug with neuroprote...

Introduction: Current study aimed to investigate the effects of resistance training (RT) along with royal jelly (RJ) supplementation on hippocampal expression of nerve growth factor (proNGF) and p75 receptor in a rat’s model of Alzheimer's disease. Method: 42 male Sprague-Dawley rats were treated with Trimethyltin chloride (8 mg/kg). Then, the rats were randomly divided into seven equal group...

Background Endometriosis is a common, benign, oestrogen-dependent, chronic gynaecological disorder associated with pelvic pain and infertility. Some researchers have identified nerve fibers in endometriotic lesions in women with endometriosis. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have attracted interest for their possible use for both cell and gene therapies because of their capacity for self-renewal ...
متن کاملImmunohistochemical Expression of Nanog and Its Relation with Clinicopathologic Characteristics in Breast Ductal Carcinoma
Background: Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are a group of tumor cells with self-renewal property and differentiation potential. CSCs play a crucial role in malignant progression of several types of tumors. However, what is still controversial is the clinicopathological relationship between Nanog marker and its prognostic value in the patients with breast cancer. The expression of Nanog in the patient...
متن کاملDeprenyl changes the expression of Trk-B and P75 NTR receptors in rat after sciatic nerve axotomy
During development many of neurons die by the phenomenon named programmed cell death or apoptosis and this reaction is regulated by neurotrophin (BDNF, NGF, NT3 and NT4/5). These neurotrophins bind to two different classes of transmembrane receptor proteins, the Trks and P75 NTR. Axotomy can induce apoptosis after birth and deprenyl is a an inhibitor of monoamineoxidase type-B and seems to act ...
